This summer, Melody’s Joy and The Scout Guide Austin put their creative minds together to host a one-of-a-kind dessert tasting and styling event at the South Congress Hotel. So when we were invited to create a dessert lounge for guests to enjoy while sipping champagne and snacking on beautiful confections, we couldn’t have been more excited!

While we aren’t professional pastry chefs by any means, there are a few things that we’ve learned from binge watching The Great British Baking Show on Netflix. First, baking is a science — so, it’s important to strike a balance of flavors and textures. Second, people eat with their eyes first — so, it’s gotta be eye-catching. And lastly, having fun while baking is an absolute must!

We took the same approach in curating pieces for this event. To start, we brought along our Waylon Farm Table to set up as a cake display. The contrast between the more rustic galvanized metal tabletop and the bright, colorful desserts made for the sweetest combo.

Another styled cake display featured our reclaimed wood Brixton Farm Table, which was topped with even more delicious treats, like s’mores tartes and vanilla-raspberry cakes. Meanwhile, our Franklin Bar Cart served as the cutest plate and cutlery station.

For the piece de resistance: our dessert lounge! Let’s break it down layer-by-layer, shall we? We started with our extra large Jute Rug set underneath our Camille Rug for some contrast in color and texture. Next, we brought in our Leah and Borris sofas and sprinkled them with a healthy coat of throw pillows in bright kilim and velvet. Our Easton Stools and Wyatt Chairs rounded out the lounge, which was accessorized with a hexagonal backdrop from Lindsay Southern and the most stunning sherbet-hued floral designs from Davy Gray.
